No, you can't have proper menstrual periods. It's a myth. If you bleed - spot - during very early pregnancy, it may be blood from the womb lining which is shed during the implantation of the embryo. It could also be a sign of ectopic pregnancy (when the embryo implants in a fallopian tube). At any other time, it may be a warning sign of miscarriage. In ANY case of bleeding, see your doctor immediately.

you can have blood loss but it is not a period although it may only happen at the time your period would have been due. this must be checked out by the GP and if it happens rest is needed, and more regular checks with the midwife, as the likelyhood of miscarriage is great. it happened to me with both my kids. with the first i did not know i was pregnant for 4 months.

Yep. My friend's wife missed a period and tested positive for pregnancy... then she had her period (not just spotting, but a full-on period) for the first four months after that! Finally it stopped when she started showing.

The baby was huge when he was born so he was definitely no six-month preemie...

It can happen, but it's pretty rare. It should also always be reported to a doctor, as it could be a sign of miscarriage.

Yes you can. That's why some people don't even know they are pregnant.

I heard that it is possible but I don't know if that myth is based on spotting.
