Literally ,the frequency width of a transmission channel in Hertz,gigaHertz,etc.Often used as an expression of the amount of data that can be sent through a circuit.The greater the bandwith,the greater the amount of data that can travel through a single channel at any one moment in time.

It has to do with the amount of information that can be transmitted or recieved at the same time. To give a visual aid to understand this, think of water flowing through a hose. A small garden hose might be said to have low bandwidth, while a large fire fighters hose could be said to have high bandwidth.
