Who is right?

Me and my boyfriend are arguing over the stupidest thing, i say the right way to tell time is..5 till 8 for example and he says its 5 to 8, so we were wondering what you think is right :)

You are both right. Til and To mean the exact same thing when you are explaining time. It's just a matter of preference. And anyway, arguing about who is right all the time is the quickest way to end a relationship. Good luck!

Either way is acceptable. "till" is just short for "until" and saying it si 5 minutes to 8 or 5 minutes unil 8 both make complete sense.

'Until' and 'till' express 'up to that time'. Till (or 'til) is a contraction of the word "until." We use either the simple present or simple past with 'until' and 'till'. 'Till' is usually only used in spoken English.

Somehow 5 to 8 sounds more right. I have always used 'to' to tell time and I suppose that has stuck.

I prefer to say '5 to 8'. But both both ways are right, because when you say it both ways make sense, they mean the same thing but use different wording. 5 minutes to eight o'clock or 5 minutes until eight o'clock.

I normally say "till" but honestly I do not think there is any right or wrong way to tell time.

you're right...that is a stupid thing to argue about. why not argue about it being 7:55 or 19:55? That would make much more sense....
