It could any number of things as the others have said
#1 Heart Attack, #2 Broken Ribs, #3 Gall Bladder trouble
#4 some sort of Cancer. All of these merit a doctors attention
My vote is that it may an undiagnosed asthma condition. The symptom you describe sounds like a possible asthma attack at any rate the general consensus is that you need a doctor visit pronto.

It could be something as simple as trapped wind.
I have been in severe pain and out of breath with that and that's no lie.
Try sipping water (as hot as you can stand it) or taking a tablet which breaks up wind. Beat/rub your chest or back like how you do with a baby to make it burp.
I think if it was a heart attack there would be other symptoms or it would be so severe that you would not be online typing about it.. . ..

oddly enough it could be your Gall Bladder. I just went through it. I had pains in the center near my Sternum and the pain went out my back. Kind of felt like it was smaller going in the front and got wider as it went out the back. It was hard to breathe and it kept making me want to buckle over. If this sounds similar you should go have it checked out. Hope it helps.

with pain on inspiration it is likely upper respiratory infection. Go to doctor you likely need help with an antibiotic. You could go to your ER or walk in clinic. Not to fool with.
