Lets say your grandma has a stroke and is in the hospital, and your great grandmother just had a heart attack and is in the exact same hospital. Neither of them knows that the other is there. The grandmother's blood pressure is up so any stress could kill her. The great grandmother's heart is bad and any stress could cause her another heart attack. Do you tell them about the other or say nothing at all?

This was a real situation. I decided to tell neither of them and they both died. I attended my grandmothers funeral one week and my great gradnmothers the following week.

It depends of course on the situation. In your situation, it was most likely the right decision. If you can tell them without worrying about causing additional problems, go for it. Otherwise, wait and make sure they are up to it.

I think you did the right thing. Telling either of them could have caused them more harm. Neither was in a position to help or comfort the other. What good would have come from telling them!

Would the doctor / hospital be able and willing to let them share a room?

If their bond is close, they already know in their hearts ... I guess each individual is different and you need to determine what their personality type is.

As for myself, if my beloved was hospitalized at the same time, I would want to know under all circumstances --- and they'd better get my beloved into my room or face the wrath of a fierce Giraffe.
