Best solution I can offer is grammar is not a priority in language today. The amount of people my age (I'm 22) who don't even know what an adverb is is staggering. So most people probably don't fully realize that the suffix is not needed.

These are not really examples of unnecessary suffixinginginging :), but horrendous coinages all the same:
'Tangibilise' - courtesy of my boss, as in: 'we need to tangibilise our targets'
'Irregardless' - why say 'regardless', when you get to exercise your lungs just that teensy-weensy bit more by saying the longer word?
If grammar's not going (sorry, 'goingifying') to hell in a handbasket, it's at least going to heck.
Sigh.

people add these suffixes because they actually don't know any better, no one tries to look like a dumb a*s on purpose, if you aren't told you wouldn't know and when you hear someone do this, tell them better.

Maybe because the public school system doesn't teach grammar anymore?

I dunno. But I hate it when people say:"supposabley" instead of supposedly. Also, when they add: "-ality" to a word that surely doesn't need it. Like "verticality". Also - "You know?" &" like" with every three words! I'm an English Grump!

I think that they think that the more syllables there are, the smarter they seem. They're wrong, of course.
