Are you asking office? or official language? All previous immigrants learned the Language of their new Country the USA, and that was English. They often had a second language in their homes, of their country of origin that may have been Irish Italian German Slavic etc. As their children got educated in the English Language the Parents learned as well. They were intelligent enough to accept the change. And they are often bilingual

When you go to Germany on vacation or to live you learn German. Spain -Spanish, France -French, Japan, Japanese.

Those that come to the US - Spanish, Russian, etc.

If you go to a country learn the language. For the US it's English. Now I'm not saying those other languages are bad or anything. I speak Spanish and German but I live in the US and English is my main language. If I moved to Germany I'd have to learn better German.

It would force immigrants to conform. If English was the official language of the country, schools would no longer have to offer ESL assistance. Government documents and offices would no longer have to have postings in multiple languages. Translator assistance would no longer be required by law. I would bring our country back some 80 years!

It already IS an official language. Not at the federal level, but most of all states in US has official language already defined to be English.

I am all for accomodating people with communicating in English, but I draw a line at this being our option. There is a big problem when people start demanding we provide services in their language, and refuse to learn ours.

This is America. We speak English here. If you will not learn the language, then leave. I am not interested in hearing Spanish anywhere. I am sick of the arrogant illegals refusing to assimilate into our society. We must make it impossible for anyone who will not learn the language to make it here.

If you move to France, you must learn French. No difference. I hope to see some politicans grow a spine.

I shop in Wal Marts in poor low income areas with a lot of hispanics. I have to be bombarded with Spanish this on the Wal Mart tv network. I am sick of it.

Office's in what country?
If you are referring to the United States of America, the reason is obvious. English is the official and accepted language of the country and why should it be anything else?

"GOOD MORNING, WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA."

"Press "1" if you speak English."
"Press "2" to disconnect until you can"
