These games were bowled unopposed, with no one to verify either one of the sanctioned scores.

I thought that the honor scores to be recognized needed to happen during sanctioned leagues or tournaments, then a USBC or ABC/WIBC (in the past) representative was called to the bowling center, survey the lane and check the oil length to see if it was legal.

It happened to me 7 times during league and one time during a PBA regional tournament, and had to go through the entire drill of having my scores and the lanes certified. Nowadays, anyone can get an 800 series or 300 game with almost no effort due to the advances in equipment.

What happened to the good old days when you had to work for your honor score and had to depend totally on skill to do it?

i really don't know this is the first i heard of it......i had a 300 tossed because the lanes did not pass the inspection...that was back in 1985 and it stank,,,that was bowled in a tournament...but oh well they shouldn't count if they bowl unopposed...or an officer to verify the score so i doubt they will sanction the series

when I first heard about it, he bowled his first one on Nov. 5th last year... I remember the date cuz its my birthday, haha... But anyways, when I first heard about it, I felt bad for him cuz they didnt approve that one cuz his fees werent payed or whatever... But I'm like that poor kid worked hard for that... I mean you know how hard it is to bowl a 300, much less 3 300's... But then he bowled to more 900's over the next 2 months!!!! I said thats not even something somebody could do once in a lifetime and he did it 3x w/in a few months?????? Thats when I realized there was something fishy going oon...

First off, the kid is 17, and if i remember correctly his father owns the bowling alley, and he was prebowling for a league before the alley was even open... Now if my daddy owned the damn lanes I'm sure I could bowl for free whenever I want, and so does he.... Now even if he did manage to bowl those games (which I'm not convinced, but lets give him the benifit of the doubt here), whos to say daddy didnt say hey you want to count those towards your league??? Its not like us where we have to tell them we are prebowling for a league before we start, we cant choose based on our scores...

And even if the place wasnt open yet and he was taking advantage of having the place to himself, if he were really bowling those scores, dont you think "daddy" would have realized esp. by the end of the 2nd game what this kid was accomplishing??? DOnt you think he would start calling in other family members (mom, siblings, whoever) that might want to witness it???? NOt witness for USBCs sake, but b/c their son/brother was making history???? I find it very hard to believe that the only witness to these "900s" was his father.... Whole story sounds very fishy to me, and I'm surprised USBC just took their word for it, and didnt investigate at all....

OH, without making my post too much longer here i do agree with that ex-pro about not having to work for your scores... Even w/o the advantage of having a "daddy" lie about our scores, most still dont have to work that hard... Too many of the newer synthetic lanes that have easy house shots in order to encourage higher scores, to keep people interested in the game and coming back. Add that to all the newer balls that practically have a magnetic force towards the pins, you've got it made...

I still bowl on one of the few older wooden-lanes around.. It's a modest size (40 lanes) family-owned... Simple but yet challenging, thats the way bowling should be... It looks easy, sounds easy, hey all ya gotta do is knock the pins down right? but its not cuz the oil patterns change from lane to lane and even game to game, and thats what I like.... I also use a amf triumph ball I got at a pro-am almost 3 years ago... Havent even had to resurface it yet.. I bowl on it 2x a week, but I only have one major nick in the ball, and its not in the ball track, so it doesnt bother me... I see no reason to run out and buy the newest balls out there -- the one, the big one, the whatever one... ITs ridiculous... ITs one thing if i were in the market for a new ball anyway (and even then I would discuss it with the pro shop guy, also the owner, and knows me very well, so he could recmmend the right ball..), and it was the right ball for me, then yeah... But my ball is fine the way it is right now, I dont need the newest ball... You get the newest one every time, then you'd be pretty much getting a new ball everytime you bowl...

Probably a hoax since there should be someone from the USBC or someone to verify this.

And how about:
What happened to the good old days when bowling was about skill, not equipment?

I couldn't agree more.
