I doubt they will be phased out, however I save "wheat pennies". That is pennies minted from1909-1958. These pennies were made of copper and will be worth money in the future. In fact some of them now (depending on the year) are worth thousands.
Pennies minted after 1958 won't be worth anything, even in 20 years.

Never. There are billions of pennies in circulation, and a coin's value depends primarily on its scarcity.
Also, even if a penny were to increase to *1000* times it's current value, an impossibility to begin with, it's still only worth $10.

In 1983 the U.S. mint began minting Pennies made of Zinc that have a copper coating on them.Zinc is toxic so keep them out of kids mouths.The penny will not get phased out.

The cost of copper has gone up so much in the last 6 months that supposedly they are worth more then a penny. That is with whatever little amount of copper that is left in them. I can't find a link to verify this though. :^(

They make good bookend if you fill a nice tin box with them. Cheaper than actually buying a bookend. It is unlikely that they ever will be worth much.
