I want to get a new cell phone, my provider said I must buy my phone from them. Is this correct? The lady said I could not go to ebay or elsewhere and purchase a phone, they will not work with their service. Must have their software.

if your phone has a sim card all you have to do is make sure you buy a phone that runs on the same band your service provides and all you have to do is just switch your sim card to the other phone!! it should work

You can buy a phone from another company as long as it is branded with your service providers brand.

You can sometimes buy another phone branded with another provider, but there is software differances and problems that could arise for doing so. If you buy another phone elsewhere, its not guarateed to work properly so when setting it up the company may not help you, and if there are tech problems the company won't help you because they warned you ahead of time that there would be problems.

You can buy any phones that's compatible with your provider's network. If you contract is over, you can basically switch to a different carrier and still keep the same number. REMEMBER don't cancel your existing phone number yet. The new carrier of your choice will do the switch for you at no cost. Check out some great deals at http://www.bestincellphones.com/
I got a new RAZR phone for free and switched to a new carriers a few months ago. http://www.bestincellphones.com/free-cell-phones-offers.asp
