It is a Dell XP it that matters

there is no DVD in side of it, I need to put one in it to run a program.... thanks....I have stuck a pin in there to open it by hand and so far nothing

maybe you should try a paperclip if it will fit. Maybe the pin is to thin and its not enough to push the manual release.

Sometimes the cd/dvd in the drive gets stuck. If you look around the front of the drive, you should find a tiny little pin hole. (As some Dell computer have a faceplate over part of the drive, you may have to remove the faceplate to find the hole) Insert the end of a paperclip into the hole and you should be able to manual open the drive's door and remove the disk.

The computer needs to be switched ON as the draw uses a small electric motor to open the draw on the drive the pin in the little hole should then open the draw

if it's new call dell and tell them to replace it. if it's used or refurished it could be dead and you will need to replace it. if you can open the case and check the plugs. does the light come on during start up

The same thing happen to me.
I did not know about the pin hole at that time.
What I did was, restart my PC and while it is restarting, try to open the tray.
