Maybe you could do a picture of the Eiffel tower wearing a beret with the club's name spelled in red white and blue (the flag colors).

I had to design T-Shirts in high school for the Swim Team and KEY Club. Are you able to use logos or is this Silk Screening of some type?
What you design will also depend on if it's in color or monochrome. If you have only two colors to work with, you have to adjust your drawing and work more with lines and dimensions to create an optical effect if it's 3-D.
If this is Sketch Drawing, you can always go with focus on the Words where the Letters are stylized and then there's a simple drawing that is iconic of French Culture.
It could be in the form of a sketchy Eiffel Tower, which would would be something that swoops upward representing the Beams of the Tower.
Including a French Flag may help. If the shirts are in color, you can use the exact flag. If you only have two colors to work with, you'll have to stylize it.
You basically want to choose French Symbols that are easy to identify so that when people are looking at the shirt, they'll be able to recognize it.
If you're working with Letters that will make up most of the shirt's design, make them large so that they'll be easy to read from a distance.
When I'd draw my designs, I went for practicality and making sure that they're visible and easy to read because it serves as a banner. With words, use thick lines.
If you're good at drawing and looking for styled lettering, I suggest you use a Microsoft Word Document, type out the Words or Phrase you intend to use, and then choose the font that looks "French" or gives the lettering a French look.
If it was my assignment, I'd go with something like:
De Cercle Francais
French Club
That would be in a Stylized French Font. Then I'd make an artsy sketch of the Eiffel Tower that is easy to identify.
Pretend you're playing Pictionary and if you had to draw a sketch of the Eiffel Tower using a Felt Tip Marker, what would it look like that would be easy to recognize as the Eiffel Tower.
It's artsy, clean, and uses simple lines.
You'll see similar stylized sketches on Greeting Cards where it doesn't have to be a perfect drawing. It's just enough to be identifiable without getting into specifics.
If you want to combine the words and the icon you use, you could make it so that the "I" in Franca(I)s is the Eiffel Tower symbol that is embedded in it.

I would go with Polo type shirts in your school colors instead of T-shirts. Then put the name of the club and the students name over the left breast of the shirt. Then on the back the name of your high school with your school ensignia or something of that nature.
