That's a tough question. I read so many thoughtful, informative posts here - posts from some pretty together people. I also read posts where I just hope and pray that the poster doesn't live around too many innocent people. Some thoughts posted here are truly sick. I just hope most (from the truly sick) are really just people looking to get a reaction from people.
When I look at the big picture, there's still hope there.

Yes it does. I see so many questions posted that are just nothing more than garbage!! All these ignorant ravings about the "libtards" & "demoncrats" & "republitards". It really makes you realize that a lot of people don't want solutions to problems. They just want to be able to tear somebody down for what they believe. And the mongering for war is unbelievable!! I don't know how many questions/answers I read that are calling for more bombing, more killing. This country used to stand for something. At times it makes me ashamed to call myself an American.

No, seeing the nation go down in flames makes me despair.

No, because beyond all the people being inflammatory and stupid, there is a core of thoughtful, well-read, interesting, people who actually want to help people and answer their questions honestly.
There are good questions out there, ones that make you think and start thoughtful discussions!

I find myself wondering how many of the clowns and trolls are old enough to vote. The thought that each of these fools' votes (assuming they can and do vote) counts as much as mine is disturbing.

It does! A lot of people out there apparently are very under-educated! Scares me that these people will be the ones taking care of me and running our country when I'm old.

Yes, it makes me shudder with anticipation and dread. My only hope is that the informality of the forum and the apparent youth of a great percentage of the participants are factors that skew my perception of the "overall" intellect (or lack thereof) represented herein.

Yes, sometimes it does..
There do seem to be a few smart people with some common sense but they are definitely in the minority...

Besides, --though I assume it's the USA you are refering to as 'our nation' since I live here--there are people from many different nations who post here. "Our nation" is a bit ambiguous.
