Should I just wait a week and then test or sould I test now? I tested 4 days before my period was due and it returned negative, however that was probably too early. Also when you test, should it be done first thing in the morning?

It's usually best to test in the morning but it's not a requirement. You should be able to test now if you are past the first day of your normal period. I tested when I was 3 days late and got a positive.

no it doesnt need to be first thing in the morning, although thats when the hormones are at their peek for the day and you get the clearest reading.
If you're already late for your period its a good time to test, although not every women (although most do) produces enough hormone to be detected in the urine even after a missed period.
You best bet, if you're trying, and if you're late and think you are pregnant, is to just go down to the doctors office and request blood work.
They can pick up the smallest amount of the human growth hormone in the blood, even a week after conception, so by the time you're late for your period there is more than enough in the blood to get a result.
You will have to insist on it even if the pee test they make you do first is negative. That was you will not worry and you will know for sure.
Its the easiet way.

Try testing with the first response early test which is the most accurate because it can detect the lowest levels of hcg. Also, use your first morning urine which will have the highest concentration of hcg. Very few pregnant women have enough hcg to get a positive 4 days before their period, so don't worry about that negative. There is a lot of great info about pregnancy tests at this website:
