I was given a HUGE wandering jew plant, it's vines are almost 6 feet long, It's a beautiful plant except for the top half of the plant...the first 2 feet or so of the vines have all lost their leaves and are starting to die out, while the bottom half of the vines are GEORGEOUS!!. I would like to take cuttings and restart the plant, what's the best way to do this? Just cut some stems off and place in water or does this plant require special treatment??

Thanks

Two options, both work well in bright light out of direct sunlight:
1. Simply place cuttings in water and you'll have roots within a week. Then transplant to soil.
2. Use a pencil to make a hole in the existing soil, stick the cutting in there and tamp it down gently.
Personally, I prefer the second method because the potted plant looks better immediately.

First, don't take a very big cutting.Remember the new cutting won't have any roots for awhile. Look for a plant node. This is a bump or knot on the plant stem. Take your cutting a little above this point.Dip the cut end of your cutting into a powder called Root Starter (available in any garden center). This will promote faster new root growth. It only costs pennies and will give you great results.Insert the cuttings in the soil of the plant. May I suggest that you give your plant a good "hair cut" every once in awhile. It doesn't hurt the plant and will encourage a more bushy growth. You should also pinch out the new "baby" leaves on the vines to promote branching.
