Papi: Clutch hitting plus, for the 15 million the Yanks are paying arod (texas is paying 10 of his 25) you can have a better hitter in Ortiz and a fielder with the best all-time fielding percentage at third base in Mike Lowell and a first baseman with a .400 OBP in Kevin Youlkilis.
A-Rod is also in a homerun friendly park while ortiz is not (fenway is tough for lefties, wall goes out to 380 very close to the foul line). Also you cant put a big shift on righties (A-Rod) cus you need a first baseman close to the bag.

The DH thing will hurt Ortiz in any voting, which doesn't quite make sense -- so if he played 90 games at first base and gave you a C-plus there, that would make him more valuable? I don't get it. Bonds won the MVP in 2003 and 2004 moving around in left field like Redd Foxx. That gave him more credibility than Ortiz as a DH?
I don't get it, how is ortiz more valuble if he plays first base. He is a team player. He knows youk is a better fielder so he lets him play 1B. Would you prefer that he commit 1,000,001 errorrs a year like arod? No, of course not. He does what he is supposed to do - be maybe the most clutch hitter ever.

I hate both of them, but I would take A-Rod just cuz he plays the field. If Ortiz played in the National League, he wouldn't be playing in the bigs anymore. And try to stick Ortiz on a team where you don't have any power hitter behind him, like Tampa Bay or Kansas City. He wouldn't hit 35 homers because they wouldn't be afraid to pitch to him.
So the obvious choice is A-Rod, even though he's having a terrible season.

I hate A-rod and I love Papi, but honestly, A-Rod is a much better all around player. I don't know if A-rod is a better hitter anymore though.

talent wise, a-rod hands down. but all around it would be close, because a-rod can actually play good defense, he's just streaky at times. papi can't really play defense. also, when papi is on the bench when the rest of the team is playing defense, he watches film of the opposing pitcer which gives him a head start on what this guy will do. to tell you the truth i would pick a-rod.
i forgot to also say that papi farts on gabe kapler in the dugout xD

Ortiz to this point in 2006, Alex by miles and miles if you're looking anywhere beyond the short term.
This is like asking who's better between Josh Johnson and John Smoltz, then picking Johnson because he's doing well this year.

Rodriguez. Not even close. Rodriguez is already among the top six SS's ever, switched positions, and is having a bad year.
Ortiz is a 1b/DH who is having a good couple of years, but wasn't great before that and will likely fade quickly.
