There is so much about talk about "fertile days", but if you have irregular periods and missed periods, when do fertile days occur,if you miss your period, and it isnt because your pregnant, how the heck do you know when you can get pregnant, can you really only get pregnant on these days, or can it happen anytime of the month?

if you have irregular periods you need to see a gyno before you get pragnant. You need to regualte your cycle so you know you are ovulating and you can then track your fertility.

Everyone's cycle is different. There is a myth that woman ovulate 14 days after their period begins...but that is only an AVERAGE and each month can be different. The other thing is that sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days.... so if you are having a shortened cycle one month and you have sex right after your period and you ovulate earlier than day 14 than yes, there is a chance of getting pregnant. They only way to know is to know exactly when you ovulate. There are several ways to know and some are more effective than others. Some can only predict before ovulation happens and some can only predict that is has already happened. The absolute best info I can give you is to go read a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! . It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths! Even if you don't get into charting and everything....it will help you in so many ways!

Hey there!
As you know, every month women have fertile days. Typically an egg, after it is released from the ovum, can survive up to 48 hours, but typically only 24 hours. However, sperm can live inside of a woman for up to 5 days max. So if you have sex and your partner ejaculates inside of you, say, three days before you ovulate, those sperm can hang around and impregnate you when you ovulate. So even though your egg is only around for 2 days max, a sort of "pocket" exists for the time before and after that happens where there is a possiblity of becoming pregnant and those are your fertile days. Once the egg dies, however, it is EXTREMELY unlikely to get pregnant.
Generally, it takes about two weeks (but can take anywhere from 8 days to a whole month) for a woman's body to prepare to ovulate, but that can change depending on your typical cycle lengths.
You can figure out your fertile days by tracking you fertility signs. Every month your body gives you clues in the way of you body temperature, cervical fluid and cervical position. These signs change as you go throughout your cycle cluing you in to when you are likely to get pregnant.
So in short:
1. It is very unlikely and usually impossible to get pregnant on your infertile days
2. Your fertile period lasts for about 1/3 of your cycle.
3. You can't get pregnant on three days unless that is the way your particular cycle works. You could have 1 fertile day or 5 fertile days. It all depends.
I suggest you check out the Fertility Awareness Method used for either birth control or pregnancy achievement. You don't have to use the method, but it explains a lot about a woman's body and what happens during her cycle and should give you a lot more info about fertile days than you can find out here.
Sorry for the long winded answer, but I hope this helped. Good luck!

One reliable and simple way to figure out your fertile days is to take your temperature each morning before moving or getting out of bed. At your fertile times, your temperature will show a sharp drop and then begin rising again.
OR, buy the Ovulation Predictor sticks from your local pharmacy. They're effective but pricey.

There are ovulation predictors like Ovulite that look at crystal formations in your saliva. These crystals tell you when you are having the hormone surges associated with ovulation and when you are likely to be fertile (and can be used over and over again). They can't tell for sure that you are ovulating, just that you are supposed to be. You might want to see your gyno if you are so irregular to determine if you are ovulating otherwise nothing is going to do much good.

it could happen anyday of the month, but your most fertile days are few days before the middle of your cycle and about 30 hours after ovelations. you could also check your temp and see when your temp is rising that meas your are ovelating and therefore you are very fertile. or you could use the ovelation kits and that might help you too.. good luck
