My nephew has been praying that his High School isn't going to open on his first day of his freshmen year, and for some reason God answered his prayer. The teachers int the school's district might go on strike next week, when school was going to start. I just want to know how long these strikes usually last.

Good question.... it depends on what the grounds of the strike are. I would imagine it has to do with pay, benefits and pension. All of which are important regardless of your career, and more important if you have to pay a mortgage and a huge student loan for your teaching education. Hopefully it will pass quickly, if the city government agrees to propose a memorandum to at least get the teachers into the class rooms again, otherwise if it becomes heated and over blown, it could drag out for a while. Regardless, the students will make up the time.

Just because the teachers are on strike doesn't mean that school won't start. They will hire subs to begin school, and since most teacher's aren't allowed to strike against the state - their employers - then they may lose their jobs altogether. In that case, some will not join the picket lines and show up to work.

It lasts a couple of weeks to a couple of months ; until the problem is solved..., last year we had a strike at our school and it lasted 2.3 weeks.

only about a week or so, the union usually starts to fold when the teachers start to cross the lines.
