Your dead right you won't see a gay guilty in any crime drama made in the UK. Solving who dun it's are easy if their black ,gay or left wing they didn't do it ! Very different in the US I saw Danny Glover play a homicidal maniac in a US film he was great. Does this limit the parts that actors from minority groups can play ? An Asian actress on the radio said she had become a play write so she could play the bad guy

Good point. Although, what little I've seen of 24 suggests Jack Bauer is a white guy willing to shoot men and women of all colours and creeds (although the master villain behind it all does tend to be white).
The whole race representation question is very much alive in tv land. Consider this historical question:
Did the Cosby Show have more white people than Friends had black people? (You can also try Will & Grace vs. Fresh Prince).

Haven't seen one. Wish there was one. Blacks still have a long way to go to get the juicier roles but we've made great progress.
