I have started a new job like 1 month ago. Its in a new job field (Auto repair), and accounting.

Granted its office work, but its a totally different area I have worked in. I have a good boss. But I see her getting frustrated cuz there is so many things I dont know. And I am getting frustrated.

It sometimes takes me a few times doing something to get it. And also I am not a very orgainized person. And she is.

I am so scared she will get tired of me, and fire me.
I know I should be easier on myself. But its hard. She told me today that when we get real busy its not gonna be good for me.

How do I get organized and learn this new job faster than I am?

The secret is writing stuff down. Take notes on how to do stuff. Write down when you need to do it. Make a to-do list and make sure you highlight tasks as you finish them. Sure, you could cross them off, but then if your boss strolls by and sees the list, she can't can't read exactly how much you're doing ;) )

Work on your organization. You can't survive in an office environment without organization. Find a system that works for you. And remember: the Post-it is your friend!! I have no idea how the world ran without them.

Know your strengths and use them to your advantage. And be honest with your boss...ask her to bear with you during your transitional phase.

Good luck!

Spend some time talking with her on ways you can do the job better. Tell her you are really anxious to do what she wants, but the learning curve is longer than expected. Assure her that you plan to stick it out until you are a great employee and that you appreciate any help you can get. Your reassurance is important. Your attention to detail and organisation skills need work, so get a system that works for you. NEVER drop the ball even if you are slow.

Count the number of different tasks you are required to do and make a file for each one. Then write the procedures your boss describes--ask her to go slowly the first time (do this on your own time if necessary). Next, follow those directions to make sure you wrote every step. Each time you start one of these tasks, follow your notes. If possible, do many of the same task in a row before switching to something else--this will help you remember and work a little faster.

Hang in there!

The only way to get organized is ... to get organized

Get yourself a notebook...write down what the job requires, work out a schedule.
You're a newcomer... Is there someone at work you can ask to guide you through the specific tasks you need to accomplish? can you find an accountant to coach you...

It usually takes me a few weeks to learn a totally new job. When it clicks. It clicks. I think there is a point when I begin to relax. That's when it all comes together. Relax. I'm sure it will all come to you.
