25 years ago a train would crash into a town spilling dangerious chemicals across a whole town and killing people and they didn't sue, they just died and lost their property.
25 years ago dangerous products like cribs playpens and pool filters and baby toys and flammible pajamas maimed and killed thousands of children and toddlers and many didn't sue.
25 years ago women would be denied promotions or get fired for being pregnant or be paid 1/4 of what men would get for the same job and they didn't sue.
25 years ago when peoples doctors stayed up too late or were drunk and then killed or deformed them during surgery most didn't sue?
There are a few friviolous lawsuits and insurance companies and corporations MAKE SURE YOU HEAR ABOUT THEM by news releases and other PR mechanisms.
There are also many lawsuits which are never filed because people are scared and intimidated by the powerful enitity that harmed them. The problem is that there are many more of the latter than the former.
Read a history book before you try to bring back the "good old days".
Did you know that the MacDonalds attorneys confronted the old burned woman in court who spilled the coffee and yelled at her "Why didn't you take off your pants if your legs were burning!" And she said "I don't know" and burst into tears as the lawyers continued to yell at her?
If you were in the jury would you have wanted to punish them?

Do you also realize that the world population as a whole has increased exponentially? I bet if you were to take the number of lawsuits 25 years ago and find out what percentage of the population is was, that the increase is not as great as you think it is. People always forget about that.

Tort reform is a HUGE issue, but lawyers get rich with the current system, and guess how many of our legislators took the BAR? Oh, and you are lucky I don't sue you for damages over the carpel tunnel I may get from answering this question...

While there are a lot of stupid law suits, there are some cases where it holds companies responsible. But I do agree that there are 2 many stupid ones.
