I've just been watching The Sweeney on DVD. It's BRILLIANT!
I know John Thaw played both Jack Regan and, in later years, Inspector Morse but I always find it difficult to think that it is the same actor for the 2 diverse roles.
Does anyone else feel the same?

He was a quality actor, its a shame he isn't still around.

Both roles were a product of their time - one can only assume that Jack Regan moved from the Met. to the Thames Valley Service, was promoted, matured a bit and metamorphosed into Inspector Morse, as all that running around no longer suited him.
Seriously though, every role John Thaw undertook was great, demonstrating his skill as an actor. He only undertook quality work, and is very much missed.

Yeah, I love both series and think that the characters, although both CID officers, are poles apart. I think that confirms what an excellent actor John Thaw was and is still sadly missed.

nonetheless fairly youthful on the time, I enjoyed The Inspector Morse sequence. the only time i grow to be allowed to stay wide awake late! John Thaw grow to be an extremely gifted actor and the area he performed grow to be appropriate for him. i'm able to remember feeling fairly unhappy for the character he performed a loner style of guy who have been by alot of grief. He might drown himself in his drink, while on my own. He grow to be stable interior the Sweeny too, from what i'm able to remember. he will consistently be missed

John Thaw was a talented actor, another memorable part he played was in "Goodnight Mr Tom" watch it you'll see what I mean

Think about David Jason, too - Granville & Frost are pretty far apart as characters and generate the same feeling!

No. Same actor, different characters with different mentalities. They both got the job done, just in different ways.
