Asbestos, Shamsbestos... Waaaaa...
Ok, no biggie, I'll tell you how I did it, and I have no problems, cough cough.... lol....
First, remove all your furniture from the room you will be working on. Then mask everything that you can, floors, walls, windows, etc... Yes this crap is a total mess, but an ounce of this prevention is totally worth it. Just use the cheap plastic sheeting you would buya t Lowes or Home Depot. Next, put on a respirator, mask, and googgles, yeah you dont want any of this stuff to get in ya. Then attach a nozzle to your hose, preferably one that will mist, or spray lightly, spray it on the ceiling, working in spots, and scrape it off with a spatula, like a 6" or 8" wide one youl would use for doing spackle work. Once its all done, what do you know.... Your plastic sheeting caught all the crap that came off, voila... Let it dry over night before you do any painting. After painting, have your husband or wife get on top of you in the middle of the room while you look up at your ceiling enjoying your accomplishment and some well deserved "FUN".... wink wink

if it has never been painted then you are in luck... spray water and i mean lots of it a little area at a time and scrape it off.. if it has been painted i suggest you rent a shop vac and and purchase the attachment used for sanding drywall mud and slowly sand it till you get to the ceiling ... or you can just rip it out and re drywall the ceiling...

Water will do it, but call a professional. Popcorn ceilings can contain asbestos, which can be fatal if inhaled
