Well, I'd expect you to be talking to your mom first (if you have one of course) or any other type of older female member/friend, instead of trying to search comfort and help here, but anyways... let me answer you my best nonetheless!

First of all, congratulations! You have just entered the beginning process of womanhood. Next, I want to say that it's very important for you to know all about your periods. Here's a brief explanation:

The loss of blood, brown "cushion-like" debris and little white eggs (which are, of course-- and thankfully, unseeable) is an occurrence which will happen every month. Or at least, most months of the year. Though being irregular for the first two years is expected... anyway, why the loss? Because your body has developed enough to produce eggs and be, in fact, pregnant! Scary, I know, but don't worry. So, you're producing all of this while there's no male to... contribute to it, let's say. Thus, periods happen. You aren't getting pregnant, fortunately, so the loss is necessary.

What are the symptoms of periods (when you know that they're coming)?

1. Excessive changing of moods; crabby to laughing to crying....
2. Extreme reactions.
3. Overly romantic.
4. Pain! In the abdomen area. Or headaches
5. Some sort of sharp sting at the vagina.
6. White discharge-- what may have also started even one year before the year your periods came.

What can you do for all of this?

1. Keep count on a calendar; mark when you had your periods last and even when the next ones may come again. That way, you'll keep track.
2. Make sure to keep your hygiene through this monthly occurrence of 4-7 days; very important!! Buy some baby wipes to clean yourself thoroughly and frequently each day. And, also frequently change pads.
3. When at home, you can do the following: take a medication for PMS (pre-menstrual symptom) ; I recommend one called Nurofen. Or, paracetamol. Relax, get yourself into listening to music, watching a good movie, reading, etc. Enjoy yourself! Periods can be a form of being sick, so take advantage of that! Get special treatment from your parents. ;) What really helps as well is a heating pad. Heat is best. Get in these super-comfortable clothes and get a heating pad! Ultimate pain killer and relaxation guarantee!
4. For school, make sure to bring along some pads and medication when going to the bathroom there during recess or whatever. It'll help you continue working!
5. Oh, and as odd as it may seem, exercises work. They warm you up and help the loss to come. Because the only reason you're getting that "tummy pain" is 'cause the stuff that needs to come out hasen't! As for the headaches, it's for the loss of blood... last, for what you can do for PMS, is eating right. Drink PLENTY. Very, very important. And eat "simply". Pasta, rice, cereal, etc. Rice is the best, though, in my opinion.

Anyway, I hope this helped and I sincerely wish you the best!! Don't worry, hang in there, just think you're not the only one and it's not the end of the world... take care and good luck!! =D

congrats on becoming a woman. The first one probably wont be heavy or painful. Make sure you use sanitary protection and change it regularly. Hygiene is also very important around this time of month so remember to wash everyday!
It can last anythink from 5-7 days, maybe longer or shorter if your lucky. Dont go swimming unless you use tampons. It should return every 28 days.
Good luck

Congrats! I started mine about a week ago. Here's what I did:

1. Told my mom "I think i just got my period." (i was embarrassed, but she was cool about it. if you cant tell your mom, tell a woman you trust.)
2. Put a pad in my panties.
3. Took baths to soothe cramps.
4. Took Advil (or Tylenol) to soothe cramps.
5. Wore a tampon to school. (don't be scared of them!!!) Plus, remember to bring extras to school to change.
6. If you get a leak at school, (i did) put TONS of toilet paper in your underwear, and do that often. When you get home, if the blood stain is REALLY bad, throw out your underwear, wipe with pampers or a wet wad of paper towels, and put in a pad or tampon.
7. If its irregular, (mine is) don't worry. It wont get regular for about a year or so. If you have really heavy bleeding, don't worry. That's NORMAL for your first period. Like it being irregular, it will take a while for it to sort out. but if you want to make sure, tell your mom and ask her what she thinks you should do.

GOOD LUCK!

Us girls need to stick together!!

Yes brown is how it starts. But by the next day or so, it should be normal color. I agree with Andrea, don't wear your absolute favorite underwear even if it is cute. You will regret it. Wear ugly old ones you don't care about. Also, stay comfy with your period. I love wearing sweats, even if it is the middle of summer. I feel so nice and comforatble.

General Information: When you are on your cycle, it would be wise to carry extra pads and a spare pair of panties (just in case you have spillage). Even when you aren't on your cycle, it's good carry around an extra pad/tampon to be prepared when and if it catches you off guard. Other than that, just make sure that you change your pad regularly. Just as Always says "Have a happy period." :-)

Yes, it is brown at the beginning and at the end. It's only because the blood is drier.

Yes it is normal for it to look brown at first. By tommorow it should be normal color and most likely heavy.

Yes, brown is nomral for your first period. But, just take it easy... DO NOT WEAR UNDERPANTS YOU LIKE! espically if you use kotex. use midol (god-sent) if you get cramps or have the whole period experince. thats about it... the underpants thing is really important. really.
