You have 1xGoalkeeper. Then there are varying formations from a 4-4-2, 4-3-3 or 4-2-4 to name a few. This means that in a 4-4-2 for instance, you will have 4 defenders (left, right and two middle defenders), 4 midfielders (left, right and two middle attackers that often play either alongside eachother or one slightly more attacking and one more defensive) and 2 attackers. There are also many other formations such as a 1-3-4-2 - two attackers, a diamond midfield that is 4 in the middle but a lot closer together with 3 at the back and a sweeper behind them and just infront of gk.
Please note: In the above formations we never count the goalkeeper so the numbers always total 10 players as you have to have a GK so it is a given (making it 11 obviously).

you can't know until you try each position. A lot of people want to play forward, but not everybody is made for that. I believe the most demanding position is midfield because that's where you run the most. midfielders move all over the field, they are the connection between defense and offense. I would suggest you begin with defense and then move up. If you start as forward and don't score, you won't be put in games in other positions because the coach may think that you suck in all.

Depends what formation you are playing. I'd Google it if I were you, rather than waste your time here.
