They said same-sex relationships wasn't enough. It had to be called "marriage", or else they would declare that gays had no rights at all.
They said not to worry - nobody was going to be forced to marry gays against their will - only those who wished to do it would do it.
They said that this was the last human rights issue to be resolved. We didn't have to worry about things like polygamy being legal.
Then, gay marriage became legal under the Liberal government, against the will of most Canadians.
Then, the Liberals paid for a study that recommended that polygamy be legalized.
Then, the Liberal courts said "swinger" clubs were legal.
Then, the Conservatives came to power and were warned not to mess with marriage, because "it is just fine the way it is", despite that same argument causing liberal heads to explode when gay marriage was not legal.
Now, there are rumblings from liberals that churches should be forced to marry gays, or else lose their charitable status.

When the Alliance Party & Progressive Conservatives became The Conservative Party , the CTV announcer referred to it as the marriage of the 2 parties. Poetic justice?? No religion will be forced to marry anyone. I know thinking is not your strong suit , but try and follow this thread. 2 people , same sex, love each other and want to marry, and there are many reasons for it. But weddings are happy occasions, so why in the name of all that's holy would they have someone who thinks they should be put to death(Lev:20:13), perform the ceremony??
When gays and lesbians were put under "Hate Crime" protections, the Christians went bananas, because they were worried the Bible could be classified as "Hate Literature. I'm Canadian & I've never heard about a study on Polygamy. I did hear something about The Court in Quebec & a Swingers Club. It was not a Liberal Court.
I see no reason why churches should have "A charitable status". They should pay taxes and they can deduct what little charity work they do like the rest of us.
Are you from Kansas by any chance???

you ought to also word that the time period "slippery slope" is a pejorative used to describe a particular type of logical fallacy. The function flaw of a slippery slope argument is that there isn't any mandatory logical connection between the first adventure and the activities that the argument claims will follow from the first. operating example: "If the U.S. makes use of armed forces stress to unravel this conflict, then we will ought to invade everywhere we see an injustice." clearly, the U.S. would not be logically obliged to invade everywhere that an injustice occurs, yet in simple terms even as prudence advises that the abuse is too large to dismiss.

well-with the polygamy- it's all right on principle, as long as all consent, but the trouble is that all often don't consent and the children often end up being abused and there isn't enough money to support the whole family.
with the swinger clubs- as long as all are consenting, I have no problem with it.
I don't think the church should be forced to marry homosexual people, but i do think they should be allowed to be legally married, if not under God then at least under a Justice of the Peace or whatever...
anyways, i think people should be allowed to do what they want as long as no one is getting hurt.

Wow lotta anger there buddy. Tolerance is a wonderful thing. And keep in mind rumblings are not laws. I don't think they will force anyone to marry anyone. They can't force a religious entity to marry two hetero people, so they can't force same sex marriages. And by the way Christ was about forgiveness not judgment.

Being a swinger wasn't illegal. I think you're referring to the raids on certain swinger clubs over other criminal issues like drug trafficking.
