Of the places I haven't been to yet, the Grand Canyon (I came within 10 miles of it ... lol!); the Florida Keys, Niagra Falls, and Yellowstone National Park (alas, I am for the second time, driving north of it in two weeks).
Of places I have been to, the Smithsonian Museums, NYC, San Francisco, Boston/area, and all of the Pacific Northwest.

I have more than one favorite place in the USA.
#1 is Lake Tahoe, north shore, Sand Harbor or Hidden Beach. The scenery is beautiful and it is so peaceful there.
#2 is Las Vegas, Red Rock Canyon for the beautiful scenery there also. I like the strip, but travel to Vegas for the desert.
#3 would be Grand Canyon and Zion National Park.
#4 would be San Francisco.
I know there are more, but this is all that comes to mind right now.

I have several places that are considered my "favorite". To start, the place that answers my questions to life are north Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan. The sky is big, the life is slow paced, the beauty of the land is just amazing. Lake Michigan and Lake Superior are just golden! Many people never get up to this area, thinking its lousy Midwestern farms and such! Other than that, Southern Utah is a great place to visit. The canyons and the dark skies, with some parts under 1 person per square mile, just ceases to amaze me.

Depends on what you are looking for. If you want to learn about the US and it's history, I'd recommend Washington DC or Boston. If you like big metropolitan areas, I'd recommend New York City or Chicago. If you like nature and cultural activities, I'd recommend San Francisco or Seattle. If you like heat and entertainment, I'd recommend Orlando or Las Vegas.
Whatever you decide, hope you have fun!
