it is a shame that people in yahoo chess are using chess programs to gain points and spoil chess for other players` surely there must be a program out there somewhere that will help us catch the chess engine users and make it a better game by being able to catch these people ` name and shame them for all to see` thank you , robert.

Some real-time web sites might have some software set up on their server to detect if a chess engine is running on the PC of any of the players... I doubt that Yahoo does though.

The only way for you to really tell is to compare moves after the game with the engine of your choice. Of course, then it's too late to see if someone is cheating.

And even if the web site COULD detect the presence of an engine on a player's PC, that wouldn't stop them from using a portable chess computer or a PDA program to calculate the moves for them.

Only advice I can give you is to keep looking for honest players who want to play an honest game. They're out there! And don't worry about your rating... you can usually tell when you've played against a cheat. Just enjoy the games that you can, and keep in touch with players that you think are honest.

Good luck to you!!

Unfortunately no,

To catch cheaters many honest players compare moves side by side with popular programs like fritz, shredder, chess master 10 or rybka if their replies match every single one of the engines up to say 20-30 moves you can be sure that it's an engine and there are other ways of telling he's using a program replies that come at 0.01 seconds every move no human being plays that fast and even if they tried they would
blunder or make bad moves no one is perfect when it's a machine it doesn't miss a beat or sweat.

Yahoo chess cheaters don't even bother entering their moves manually they use bots these are automated programs they purchase from cheater sights like play buddy.com they just press a key and let the bot take over the entire game and rack up the rating points to unbelievable levels like 3000 or 2685 when he is really 1500 or 1256 :(

I personally be live that the best weapon honest players have against chess cheaters is not any program but their intuition and instincts being able to feel the position and the pieces their must be a human consciousness and mind at work it's always present in a game the machine mind is very different feeling it's like looking in an abyss or black hole.

I don't play Yahoo! chess, but I figure someone somewhere has coded an interface between one of the engines like GNU Chess or Crafty. They've pretty simple client-server protocol architectures.

And even if there aren't any interfaces yet, it's just a matter of running a decent engine and manually entering the moves.

Way I figure, if folk are cheating then there's no way to stop them. Ain't software a *****? ;-)
