I loved Roy Orbison. He was a really really smooth crooner. He had some really good and original material as well.
On Elvis's level, no, no way. Note remotely close, not in his way or in any way. That is not an insult, Elvis was a real heavy, only the Beatles were on his level.

Great musician. I always preferred him over Elvis - who, in my opinion was overrated. Roy Orbison may not have been the most visually dynamic stage performer, but what a voice! Yes - he was unique and more than on a level with Elvis.

He was a class singer and he was unique. I read or heard somewhere that Elvis thought he was the best around at the time and that's good enough for me.

Better than Elvis in terms of transferred emotion - Only the lonely, Blue bayou, In dreams, It's over, and the rest, teenage angst to perfection - and what a voice! and the fact that he wasn't pretty made him even more impressive.

He had a very unique voice, and Elvis was a fan. Sorely missed.

He was one of my first musical loves...I remember asking my older sister when I was just 4 "why is he soo sad"

Humble opion? I think he was more talented in lyric writing as well as singing - but then I wasn't raised with Elvis!
