Now before you say Im a racist let me finish my question. I do not condone slavery. I think its delporable to make a human being a slave. I was just thinking the other day that if I was black would I be happy there was slavery. Think about it a little...if there wasnt slavery you would probably be some in the jungle of the hot African sun. You may be starving, have some deadly disease, be ruled by some awful dictator that kills his own (i suppose you could make a similar case about our president! LOL) and you would have none of the ammenities you have now. No running water, electricity, TV's etc. There would be no movies, video games, television etc. And if you are a pro athlete there is NO WAY you would be making the money you make or living the lifestyle you have. Now again, this is NOT a racist question. Slavery is an awful disgusting thing...but as a black person living in America in this day and age are you kind of glad it happened because you get to live in the U.S. today?

Two points: People are saying that Africa would have evolved if it werent for slavery. I am assuming it would not have because of the state it is in today. I dont understand how slavery would have changed that. Again, not racist, I am just basing that on facts that I know of. Point two: I think Africans would have migrated here as I see them in everyday life but I dont think they would have before like 1960-70. Racism was just WAY too big before then. They probably would not have been let into the country if we are being honest about it.

I think its funny how, of course, the first resonse from a bunch of you is "Racist" even though I specifically prefaced the question saying I think slavery is a terrible thing. Read the F'N question dumb asses. It was a legit sociological question that I did NOT wanted to be answered with the "your racist" or "your ignorant" responses I just KNEW I would get. Those answers are whats ignorant!

hmm...interesting question, before I answer I want to say that not all black people live off of welfare or think the goverenment owes them. To think that is severely outdated logic and very stereotypical. I grew up in a family that was on welfare, I have a family line that can be traced back to my great great grand parents who where salves in alabama and mississippi. My family has gone through many struggles only to surpass them and come out pretty decent. We have several executives in my family, several doctors, and a few college gradutes who have just finished up there M.S. in various things. Now, with that said, I wonder if any would be possible if my ancestors hadn't been raped beaten and kidnapped? the answer is probably not, but then those people might isntead be living a totally different life and may have help build africa in a state of superiority like is was when the morish empire was active. But I will say, I am never happy slavery happened, but with the circumstances we have been dealt, we ,as black people, have to obligation to take hold of our lives and make the best of them. If we don't then the pain of slavery would have been in vein.

What is funny is that a lot of the things you listed that we WOULDN'T have in Africa wouldn't have existed without inventions done by Black people. In addition, don't play into the Tarzan-like depictions of black people you've seen on T.V., or what you may hear about one nation's ruler. I happen to know that many of the things you mentioned are available in MOST of Africa, just like in other countries. It is the poor areas that don't have these amenities, just like in America. Believe it or not, when you lie your little head down to sleep, guess what? Somewhere in your city, someone doesn't have running water, electricity, or television.....so what you said is a moot point. Please don't forget that Egypt in it's height had more medical and technological advances than EUROPE could even dream of....yes, Egypt is in AFRICA, not the Middle East. Am I happy there was slavery? Well, put it like this: I can only trace my family back to my great-great grandmother on my mom's side. I know nothing about the people further back, because slave owners did not keep records of slave births. If I wanted to find out what country my family came from (just a little geography for you, Africa is a CONTINENT, not a COUNTRY), there is almost no way for me to find it out. How would you feel if you didn't know where your family was from? Yes, a bubble, a little bubble.....it sounds like you are thinking in a bubble, and without meaning to do so, insulting black people in America, and Africans. And by the way, the first statement has been reported for racism......

I do not think you are racist. I think you are ignorant. If white people never step foot in Africa I do believe it would have been a better place. Look at the history of European going to other country where there where Native people. Look at what happened to the Aztec of central Mex., the Incas of Peru, the Mayas from the Yucatan, the Aborigines in Australia, the Natives in the U.S., not to mention the countless Kingdoms across Africa. Just think of what would have become of all those kingdoms if Europeans did not come and "save the savages". We will never know what could have become of them because of all of the destruction the Europeans caused.
And another thing not everybody in Africa is starving! We have poor and hunger people here in the U.S. Do you really think there is no electricity in Africa? Are you that ignorant? And yes it my be hot in some parts but I am positive there is cool places as well, and we Africans know how to use fans.

You might want to reverse this question and think about what would have been the impact on Europe and America WITHOUT slavery!
What if Europeans had stayed on that little rock called europe and tried to live an evolve from the resourceless lands that you lived in.
Perhaps Africa would be on the moon first!
And next your ignorance about what is available in Africa today DESPITE all of your plunder and folly is much more than you know about. Africa is the richest piece of real estate on the planet.
Ask Europe and our government or just do a search on the natural resources of Africa - you'll even see that the strategic metals that are used in our space progrm come from there!
I first became aware of this thru a spread country by country of what each has in resources -and I was astounded!
No wonder the European barbarians couldnt keep their hands off of Africa! You should read what the early Arabs said about the splendor of places they visited in early times in Africa. Oh well---
We would have been fine without America - You would not have been fine on the European rock - whicjh is why you came to Africa.- capish?

Yes. It's a simple truism. Without slavery, there would be far fewer blacks in the US today. Considering how we have historically ignored the plights of the African continent, there would likely be very few political type refugees like the South East Asians after Vietnam, &c. And considering how backwards the African continent has been in general, it's unlikey they would've built ships and explored any part of America on their own, before it was completely colonized. Everyone is lucky to be in America. Wouldn't have needed a Civil War either.

When I first saw this question, I thought you were insane for asking it...what black person is going to say they are happy there was slavery? Now that I have read your point, I understand where you are coming from. It is a decent theory that the black race would not have been in America as long as they have, but they still would have made it here eventually...every other race/nationality has.

I completely agree with HotBellyDancer-- short, simple and yet so true.

I see your point of view while seeing hers. True, most blacks can be nonethless happy of being where they are even though a certain pain can still be there of course, but still. I think, honestly saying, that she's absolutely right on saying you made an assumption that blacks wouldn't have evolved without whites brining them and later putting them into slavery, etc. Couldn't they have evolved themselves! Yes maybe quite a bit slower, but in the end, what does it matter? As long as they would have, who cares? It's not a competition!

So, interesting question, but rethink a few things over. Nice asking all of this though! And thank you for reading my answer...
: )

Honestly for you to ask a question like this one leads me to believe that you don't really know any black people at all and based on some of the answers others offered up, I'm starting to wonder how many of you even know any of us.
Its pretty disgusting and depressing to see what
other races think of Black people. We are simply people there are good and bad in every race. It's so f***ing sad that racism is still very much alive and well. This question is bottom line offensive and it gives racist everywhere the opportunity to voice their biased opinion on something they choose to know little or nothing about...BLACK PEOPLE! You're asking the wrong question, how about asking yourself how Black mothers, fathers, sisters, children,PEOPLE would respond to such an ignorant question. It's like asking Jewish people were they happy the Holocaust happened!! You're going the wrong direction with this one!

Your logic is twisted. America would not have progressed as rapidly without the sweat and toil of the slavery times. When asking a question of this nature you should examine the subject from all sides before coming up with such an illogical hypothesis.

in the initiating, watch what you're saying. perhaps sometime you'll run into an African American and he will be 95% smarter than you, such as spelling on-line and in texting. and performance you ever heard of immigration? and far of blacks in united statesa. are born the following, so that they have got the right to study in basic terms practically as good as a white man or woman, immigrants have a similar excellent, too. And what ever got here about to the international wondering we were the ideal u . s . in the international, with the freedom OF not BEING JUDGED by using THEIR NATIONALITY OR RACE and doing what they prefer. that's human beings such as you who "wer" and nonetheless are the "stupest ppl", and instruct that they are not a real American: A patriot, a welcomer, a defender, and maximum of all: An Equality.
