I think you are wrong, they do vote and they do care. Just look at the congressional elections in 1994 and then the fact that Bush won twice despite what the dems tried to do.
You see the silent majority are moderates, not socialists, not leftist extremists, which is what the dems are comprised of.

The silent majority doesn't rule, vote, or care because they're silent...
Anyway, they don't rule because they don't vote, and they don't vote because they don't care, and they don't care for their own personal reasons. But, I have heard that people hate choosing between two evils, it's really annoying. But that's why you vote in the primaries, so you get a little more of a choice of candidate, rather than just out of two. For example, in the last election, many people would've liked John Edwards, or Howard Dean to run against Bush, because they seemed at least as good as Bush. But, a majority of democrats voted for John Kerry, who was worse than Bush, thus those of the 'silent' majority voted for Bush if they felt like choosing the lesser evil. Others just gave up, having found it pointless.

The reason that the silent majority does not rule or vote or care is that no one has paid any attention to the silent majority and then the silent majority has been out of sight and literally out of mind for so long, also there is no money in the silent majority unless it becomes a very major political party alongside the Republicans and Democrates, independents and the green party, then people will pay attention to the silent majority.

Because they are disgusted with our government, and voting doesnt really change anything anyway. There is basically no difference between the two parties, the republicans will just **** you to your face and the democrats will pretend they arent ******* you but you know they are. Whats the point in voting for a corrupt system.

they do care, but choosing between political candidates today seems like a lose?lose situation.like a choice between plague and cancer-u dont want either one.lets face it,only the very wealthy can afford to run.ur not necessarily getting someone with gr8 wisdom, idealism, common sense, compassion, strength and leadership skills-ur getting someone who could afford to run,who in most cases, seem fairly mediocre otherwise.no wonder voters give up--who is there to trust?who has tru creative vision? their out there-but they cant afford to campaign the days when, thru ability,u can rise from humble circumstances to the presidency, are long over, and our country is the poorer for it.(maybe i misunderstood this question? i thought it was about why some people decide not to vote, but the other answers here seem to imply that "the silent majority is a ploitical party? i have to confess,i havent heard the term before.?)

What used to be the silent majority is now known at Far Right conservatives. The far left woke them up, and now they are complaining about it.

The silent majority, on the whole, just don't know. God help the country if they ever get to be that intelligent.

I don't know whether the word "majority" fits, but my take is that those who don't vote don't care.
