Why does every singer become an actor or actress?

Fame is very fleeting. The gutters on the street to music contracts are lined with one hit wonders. What is popular today may not be popular tomorrow. Having a second career is a smart thing to do in cast the singing career ends. Also, anytime a singer makes a public appearance on TV or elsewhere, it is marketing for their songs and albums. Keeping their face in the public will sale records and is good advertising. P. T. Barnum said, "There is no such thing as bad publicity." In other words, it does not matter if they can act, it is good advertisement for them.

My example is Paris Hilton. If it were not for the fact that she comes from a filthy rich high society family, does she have any personal merit or talent that would warrant the attention given to her? I guess if you are poor and behaved that way, you would be a spoiled white trash bytch, but when you are rich, you are eccentric.

Because the public is infatuated with the idea of celebrity. No matter how horrible a movie is people will always go and see it if there are celebrities in it whether they are talented actors or not.

Lets face it 95% of the music and movies that we are heavily exposed to is garbage. Even if some things are catchy or dazzling, they will only last for a brief moment and be easily forgotten.
The sad thing is that it has become about money, not about creating something wonderful.

I think it's for a commercial purpose, I mean, it's a way to feed more their ego and gain more fans. Personally, it feels disrespectful for other good singers that can act and viceversa.
Today everyone can either sing or act.
I hate it because they no longer give you opportunities in an artistic career if you don't meet their aesthetic demands.
Now the only important thing is "sex sells".

Not EVERY singer wants this. But for the most part, singers are part of an overall arc of person called ENTERTAINER. An entertainer will strive to entertain by doing any sort of art. Thus, you get many cross-overs from singing into art, photos, movies, etc...

Because someone at one point told them they can and now they have this big ego. Examples of good actors but bad singers:

Lindsay Lohan
Robert Downey Jr.
Paris Hilton- her acting is only good in the bedroom
Nicole Kidman- I love her but she can't sing

I think will smith is a better actor than singer. I think its kinda dumb how famous people think they can act because they can sing. Or maybe they can't sing, they just got a cheap record deal.

plus i think their managers and record labels and stuff see it as free advertising so maybe they encourage it cos artist merchandise pay their bills too!!

There are plenty of singers who can act and vice versa.

Its the nature of the business. They get opportunities that most folks dont get; and acting roles is one of them. Yes there are some poeple who dont cross over gracefully (jessica simpson, britney spears, Paris Hilton, ugh....) But I dont think its fair to generalize them all and say they cant act.
