There are differences in the movie and the book. For one, in the book it is stressed over and over that Stanley Yelnats was overweight. And the book makes a point of how digging the holes day after day while exhausting was making him work harder than ever before. He was building muscles, losing fat. He literally looked like a different person by the end of the book. But other than that and a few other slight differences...there aren't any huge blaring differences between the two. Still I'd recommend the book over the movie...especially if it's for a class assignment where you're supposed to have read the book.

they are pretty similar but like all movie versions it's not quite the same. I read the book in 4th grade and the movie came out like 2 years later. There both pretty good, but still different.
