They will make the tank look better by eating algae, uneaten food, and even fish waste. This often results a healthier tank by reducing the amount of bacteria in the tank which feds off the latter 2. This does NOT effect the build up of ammonia, and nitrates as that is purely a result of how much food you put into the tank. So you will still need vacuum the gravel, and change the water normally.

PS- Note that not over feeding will effect the build up of ammonia, and nitrates. Fish only need to be fed once a day about what they can eat in 2-3 minutes.

Yes they do. My Pleco outgrew my 20g tank and so I bought 2 gold ram snails and 2 mystery snails. The tank was clean within a few days, but just make sure once the tank is clean to suppliment them with some algea and / or shrimp pellets or else they could starve.

I don't know about those particular snails, but I have seen snails used to clean tanks.

That is what a clerk in a pet store told me.Im not real sure if they do though.
