We have a ibook G4 right now that automatically will connect to any available airport signal without us paying for it! But our new mac mini won't, even though it has a built in airport card and should be able to do the same thing? What else should I do? I've tried fiddling around with the system preferences and nothing works. Any suggestions?????

Hello meldt,

You mentioned your AirPort card but no AirPort base station. Do you have one, or are you hoping to hop onto someone else's WiFi system?

There should be a little airport symbol up in the menu bar at the top-right. There is software to help you set up the base station in your applications/Utilities folder. I think that it's called AirPort Setup Assistant. Check the stuff out there.
