The theatrical movie with "This Island Earth" would definitely stand as one of the best episodes of the series. My favorite episodes of the show were, "Pod People", "Manos Hands of Fate", "The Beginning of the End", "Space Mutiny", "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank", "Time Chasers", and all of the shorts. I'm really torn between Mike and Joel. Both had their unique wit and charm. I will say that I preferred the episodes before Pearl Forrester took over.

That's a great show...although, I have to say, I only really enjoyed it when the original host, Joel Hodgson, was still around. Speaking of Joel...anyone else out there remember his stand-up routine? He used to wear a white tuxedo jacket, and do bits with all kinds of whacky props that he built himself. Funny stuff.

The idea behind MST3000 was not new, by any means. Years before that series launched, a group in Los Angeles called the L.A. Connection used to rent out a movie theatre, show a bad old Sci-Fi or Horror film ("Attack of the 50-Foot Woman," e.g.), and they'd play it with the sound off, while they sat in the front row with live microphones and did ALL the dialogue and sound effects.

Even before THAT...horror movie hosts (such as "Seymour" here in L.A.) used to insert themselves into cheesy films, offering running commentary that made those howlers worth watching.

I have all the DVDs and even some on VHS that they haven't put on DVD. I even have the movie they released as well as some of the specials they made for the Oscars. Love that show.
