They wear a nice pair of jeans?

I hate how I can't wear jeans to work. I don't wear baggy faded jeans. I wear nice form fitting dark blue jeans.

I work in a bathing suit store geared towards young people. I'm allowed to wear flip flops and strapless shirts! But not dressy jeans...I think that's retarded

Every place is different. Most are sliding towards a more casual look yet still proffesional. It wasn't to long ago that many businesses required ties on all guys. My first job was a bagger at a grocery store and I had to wear one!

Yours may not allow it due to them wanting a more uniform look. Some places want only black pants or beige. Jeans come in too many shades of blue and usually one or two people will stretch the limit and ruin it for everyone.

Maybe suggest a "casual Fridays" thing where people can wear at least dark blue or black jeans in very good condition. It could open the door to allowing it more in the future.

Hey, and if you think Retail is bad my Wife worked for a company where all she did was answer calls on the phone (no customers ever saw her) and she was not allowed to wear jeans!

I am an employer and I let my nighttime and weekend staff wear jeans...but I don't get to wear them except on fridays. Most times the dresscode for a particular place is made up by corporate people or the dress code was made a "few" years back and hasn't been updated. Have you brought this up with your supervisor? Have you asked how long ago the dresscode was written? A lot of places don't allow their employees to wear jeans, I work for a small YMCA and our dresscode differs from the bigger YMCA's. Sucks that you work in a swimsuit store and can't wear jeans...priorities seem to be a little bit askewed by the employers.

It all depends on the store. Gap, Old Navy and several other places allow jeans. If your job does not, I think a nice pair of well fitting tailored jeans with the right coordinating shoes and top would be okay. Just try it one time and bring a back up outfit in the car.

Little Missy, No it isn't unprofessional to wear jeans to work. Stylish or not, if your employer says no then no it is. Nordstrom's lets you wear jeans but they have to be good jeans>Good jeans being what? What do you wear with your jeans? A nice shirt inside of your jeans, full hair and make-up on, a belt, accessories on ,cute shoes or what? I definitely would ask them as it never hurts to ask. Show them with a digital camera or something. No doesn't always mean no!!Ya no

If your boss says it's unprofessional for your work, then it is. That's it. End of story. It's only a JOB. If you don't want to dress to code, someone else will gladly do it and you get no check to buy those nice jeans. Godloveya!

depends on your company's policy. each retail store has an image they want to project to consumers. as an employee who is visible to the consumer, your company requires that you look a certain way. it's not that blue jeans are unprofessional. in a tattoo shop, blue jeans would be great or even other retail stores.

Your employer establishes policy as to employee dress codes. These codes reflect the image which the employer is creating for the retail establishment.

Your option is to either meet the dress code or find a different job.

Based on what you say about your self, I would have to say no I would not think it unprofessional! But the thing is, it's not all about you! So many times business has attempted to go along with good people! Trouble is many people agree with everything that your question ask! But once the right is given, they abuse it!
So it is best by far not for business to go along with it. So I would have to say, yes it is unprofessional! This is a case where the few makes it bad for the many! Sorry!

It depends on what your retail store is selling. If it is selling casual clothing and jeans (for example), then I see nothing wrong with it. In most cases jeans would be unprofessional.
