This guy had a good question (and i am having the same problem with insightbb) so i am bumping it up

I have noticed that I get disconnected from the internet if I am away from the computer for a while, now is it something to do with Tiscali,as in idle connection, that they disconnect you? As I have been through all of my settings, and everything is fine, as you get a ip address that takes you to a webpage that allows you to customize all your settings, that is also fine, I keep on having to unplug my router/modem, and wait for it to intialise so that I have my internet connection again, does anyone else have problems with this or is it just me????

If you think you are being kicked offline by your ISP for being idle then try this.

If there is no setting in your router to send a keep alive packet every so many seconds then you could keep your connection alive by telling your browser to refresh your homepage(or any page) every so many minutes.

In SlimBrowser right click on any tab

In Firefox install the ReloadEvery plugin https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/115/

I don't use IE. So all I can suggest is to load a web page that auto refreshes. I'm sure there are many utilities that will auto refresh or ping an IP address on a timer available.

1) it depends on how far you are from the router
2) most routers, however good, in my experience, need to be restarted like once in 10 days.

My suggestion would be to call the support for the router, but in the meantime, to prevent idle connections, set your browser to a page that has and auto-refresh (like cnn.com) and change the stand-by settings on the computer as well.

Check to make sure that the operating system is not sending the network card into idle if it is not in use. The Ethernet card connecting your computer to the modem or gateway needs to be set to "Always On."

Hi,
Have you tried the Tiscali forums.
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=215
You may be able to get some answers from the broadband moderators. They are more help than contacting customer support.
Hope this is of help.
Cheers,
Gary C.
