I want to be sure to avoid nipple confusion and I was wondering if any moms out there know from experience which bottle is best? I've looked at Second Nature, Avent, and Gerber and I'm unsure. Thanks!

The baby's not here yet.

You may have to try more than one to find out which one your baby will prefer. I'd suggest not buying a lot of one kind until you discover if your child will take it or not.

Personally, I'd suggest the Avent or I've heard that the Breastbottle is good. You want one with the nice wide base that resembles the breast and you want to make sure that they latch on to it deeply just like they would the breast. You want to make sure you always use a slow flow nipple so that the milk doesn't come out too fast and overwhelm them. (Drinking from the bottle and nursing from the breast are VERY different.)

I would suggest waiting 4-6 weeks to introduce the bottle. this way you will have breastfeeding established and your supple will be in pretty well. If breastfeeding is going well, 3-4 weeks might be OK. If you got off to a rough start, then I'd wait until 5-6 weeks and/or when you feel things are going smoothly at the breast.

Some babies only take one or another. I'm an Avent lover. One thing to keep in mind is that for most breastfeeding babies, for bottles it's best to keep usnig the newborn slowest flow nipple so it's not pouring out of the bottle, and they really have work at it.

I think the problems with the older playtex nipples are gone since they resdesigned them.

Also, encourage your care provider to stop during bottle feedings and burp. Not only to maybe help with gas but also so the baby does not become accustomed to constant flow, unlike many moms who have a period of slow flow before the next letdown.

How soon are you going back to work?

Your baby will decide which is the best bottle. I bought a bunch of Avent bottles so my husband could give the baby a bottle once a day, and she didn't like them. She liked the cheap Gerber ones. Don't buy too many at first because you won't know if the baby will like them. Maybe buy one or two of a couple of different kinds, then after you find one the baby likes you can buy as many as you need.

Avent has the nipple shaped closest to a mother's nipple. And they make their bottles angled at the neck so the baby won't suck in as many air bubbles, causing gas. I've used Avent for my 3 kids, and I have no complaints.

the one your baby will take it, Mine had very bad bottle refusion when we started bottle feed him. We tried many brands of bottles and nipples and finally found one combination he willing to take. By the way, it is Avent with 0 months nipple

I always used Playtex disposable. The nipples look more natural and I never had a problem with nipple confusion with my son.

I breast fed my twins and they both liked the Playtex nurser. The orthodontic nipple and natural latch both work well.

Also, the playtex system has a great attachment for pumps. You can pump the milk right into their liners and store them. Soo convenient!!

I use vent-air, and they are wonderful. There are 2 different shapes of bottles. One is very similar to the breast, is it the shorter fatter one! Did you buy a pump yet? If not, I have the Ameda purely yours, and I love it!
