You could check an ice cream parlor...

Hippies, like beats and flappers b4 them were product of their times. They are people with a certain mindset (Usually liberal, inquisitive, unconventional, socially involved, and a bit alienated) flavored by their environment. As time passes/environments change we change further. Many "Hippies" became computer nerds, crossing guards, politicians, bums, You name it.
Radicals that most people associate with hippies were materially unencumbered. They had nothing to lose, and were highly mobile. They were able to move on taking all their possessions along in their military surplus backpacks (durable and cheap) with them.
From the outside this appeared to be great fun! After a few years, sleeping in a field in a well-worn sleeping bag got to be old.
You would practically kill for a cherry-strawberry shake and a Big Mac.
You found a woman you liked enough to want to stay with.
You began to realize that NOT "Selling Out The Movement" ment that you were selling out yourself.
You "grew up", put down roots and started a family. You ended up blending in and puting your energies into your community.

Why hell youngster, You probably know a hippie or two already. Ask around, if nothing else you will meet some interesting people and learn a lot about a world unavailable to you in any other way.

unfortunately the only real hippies left are the older ones...people who call themselves hippies these days have no clue whatsoever what being hippy was about..they think if you grow your hair long and become a protester then they are hippies...not true...not true at all....if you really want hippie friends find someone who lived the era not someone imitating it badly.
