is it true that after a gynecologist appointment and after getting yourself checked for stds, etc., they usually dont call immediatly if you tested negative for any infections/diseases? do they call you right away if you have something or if you dont? my experience is that they dont call you when they say the will if you are negative for anything.

My experience has been that any doctor tends not to call right away unless you have a life threatening condition. If you are expecting test results, the best thing to do is ask what day the results should be back and call that afternoon. I have found that works best.

I suggest afternoon rather than morning because I used to work in a hospital laboratory. The results from test we had to send to other labs usually came in late morning and early afternoons.

If they say they will call, or they tell you to call back in a certain period of time, it does not mean anything other than it takes a few days at least for the lab results to come back. Some will tell you that they won't call unless the results cause the physician to want to see you again.

Depends on the doctor and whether or not you specify if you want a call. Some doctors won't call if you don't have anything wrong with you and then some will call just to let you know that everything was fine. It really just depends on the doctor.

no news is good news. if they called, its probably to repeat a test or something. Try not to stress about it too much until you can call the nurse practitioner and ask whats going on.

In fact, the office is probably still open, you should call. Insist that you be seen today if they tell you he has to see you in person. Its not fair that you be worried about something until they can fit you in if its really nothing.

best wishes.

More often than not, most doctors practice the "no news is good news" philosophy. I think I've only ever gotten maybe 2 or 3 calls my entire life for my annual check-ups.

Just if it's bad news, unless a specialized test was performed & you are concerned about the results of the test.

Normal visit, etc., no.

I find that it is different with each dr's office. I had one dr who insisted that I call his office to find out, they wouldn't call me. The dr I have now only calls if there is a problem. Once you get to know the dr you will know what to expect.

I don't know, my OBGYN normally sends me a note saying "nothing abnormal was found".
