My first period lasted two weeks. I think your okay. Your body needs time to regulate. I think you need a higher absorbancy tampon. It depends on what size you used. Did you use a regular. Try a super then. Always change them every 3-4 hours and you can use a pantyliner for leaks. Try a brand made specially for teenagers. Never sleep with a tampon in. You shouldn't use tampons your first time they say you should wait a year or two because your body handles them better. If all else fails try pads.

You might be using the wrong kind of tampon, you could try a super absorbant one. If you can change it about every 3 hours (or less if there is still leakage), that might help too. If you don't want to trust a tampon, you could wear a pad as well, just in case there are leaks. I like Kotex ultrathins.
Your first few periods might be really heavy and really long. Your body has to have time to figure out what it's doing. You might not have a regular cycle at first either.

First off, every womans period is different. You want to start with a smaller tampon (probably like you had) to be sure that your body can accomodate them. If this size wasnt uncomfortable for you, then try using a higher absorbancy next time. The best way to make sure these leaks dont happen is to try to change it every two hours, and use a thin panti liner as a safety measure. You may want to talk to your parent about this, and see if they could make you an appt. with an ob/gyn. Sometimes, birth control can help alleviate the length and severeness of your period by the amount of hormones they deliver. My best guess is, youre just a normal teenager, and have nothing serious to worry about. Good luck darlin!

I started mine at 13 as well I know how you feel. Its freaky. My period was just like yours it lasted about a week and a half it sucked. I started using tampons when I was 14 super plus, and I would go though them in 1 hour. I started putting a pad on as well for extra protection (stay free ultra thin over nights I swear by them.) I ended up going on birth control because I lost so much blood I became anemic (lack if iron) now periods are light and they last about 3 day and the best part no cramps. Best of luck.

periods usually last a week so your ok there and keeping a tampon in for 4 hours probably isnt the best idea maybe you need a larger absorbancy or maybe try a thin panty liner as an extra layer of protection and change them both more often. if this is your first period your body is getting used to the idea it will regulate itslef over a little time and probably even slow down a bit.

You could have left it in too long. Did you use a heavy flood ones? If you didn't then that why it leaked. Periods when you first start go wonky, you will get it at the beginning of the month a week later you get another one. It happens. Talk to your mother or a female family member (They give the best advice). If your worried about leakage use a pantie liner in your undies. It will help.

Try a different absorbency of tampon. It will take awhile for your periods to regulate. If you are having long heavy periods after several months then you need to go to the doctor and he may put you on birth control pills to regulate your period.

Use a tampon with a more effective absorbency like tremendous or tremendous Plus. i take advantage of sport Tampax when I get mine & I in ordinary words placed on pads as backup. I do use tampons when I sleep as well purely so i do not worry about leaking as a lot. purely placed on a severe absorbency tampon and a pad for back up except even as swimming. do not worry about leaking as a lot even as swimming b/c the water will probably wash it away, yet nevertheless placed on a tampon. i'm particular in case you requested to apply the lavatory the advisors would not ideas letting you flow exceptionally in case you ask a woman. good success

Talk with your mum, maybe she can call dr to ask if its normal but it probably is. Its your first time and everything is normal. Try using pads as well with tampons. It can sound strange but at least you will not get to that horrible situation again. And please be happy dont let this ruin that special thing that has happend to you. Congratulations!
