Paruski (По русскй) means "in the Russian language" or "in a Russian manner". It is not insulting and it is a good thing the child knows he's adopted and where from. Let him learn Russian so that he can look for his mother when he is older. That would be a good idea!

Yes, there exist an exact translation which is used in Russian language - "Братья по оружию" (bratya po oruzhiyu), but you can also call them "боевые товарищи" (boewye towarishchi), which means "military or battle comrades" and you call people whom you served together "однополчане" (odnopolchane)
