Change over in the detroit was typically July if I remember correctly and the new model year was produced after that. So the 2007 models would begin production in 2006. You can tell by the date the car was manufactured.

The Model Year is generally defined as which year's rules and regulations is the car designed to meet.

For example, safety and emission limits may change from one year to the next, and a car manufacturer can choose which year's regulations they want to meet.

It is possible to sell a MY 2007 car in January 2006 which meets the 2007 regulations.

The build date encoded in the VIN number simply tells you which month, date and year the car was produced.

No. However, the build date of the car is usually listed on the sticker on the driver's door. Thanks. Good luck.
