Hi there.

This is simple. You need to contact your local Board of Education. They will ask you to provide them with your transcripts. You will also need to let them know in what areas you feel comfortable substituting in. If you go to elementary school, you should be able to teach everything. If you go to High school, you'll need to be go to a classroom where you will need to know that subject matter.

You will have to have a criminal background check done on you and thats about it.

If you are wondering how to become a substitute teacher, there a few easy steps you can follow. The first step you will need to take for most schools districts is to achieve a bachelor’s degree level education before substitute teaching. The next step is to fill out applications in every school district you would like to apply at. Each district may have different qualifications and different contracts, so review these carefully before you make a decision. Then, make sure to take advantage of all the educational resources available to you to make your substitute teaching jobs a success from day one. Each state varies on its requirements from stringest to "loose". You do not necessarily need an education degree or even a 4 yr degree, depending upon how great the need is. the younger you are the better your chance. The alternative route to teaching can have you teaching in CT in 8 weeks but there is much more fooolow up work you need to do to get your permanent license. The best thing for you to do os go on lint to your state dept of ed and get the latest information.

It'll vary from district to district, but generally, they require you to have 60 college credits. Some places only require you to be 21 years of age, but you must always pass a state background check.
