I really want to get my first tattoo, but I am not sure what I want yet. What do you have and where do you have it at? Any good suggestions since this will be my first time?

I don't have a tattoo but have thought about it alot in the past. I know it's fun and a Lot of people have them but remember you will have this for the rest of your Life. Try going with a temporary tattoo first and see what you think. You can even go to a tattoo shop and have them put a stencil on you and wear it for awhile and then find out if the tattoo company is a good place with a solid reputation and talk with some people who have gotten tattoo's from the person who will be giving you a tattoo. They say also that tattoo's are an expression of oneself and that's kool except when you get married, clothes you wear, jobs to apply for, etc. There is a lot of thought that should go into this other than say you just want a tattoo.Be YOURSELF AND GOOD LUCK!

I've got 2: one's a symbol I believe is called a triquetra (similar to P.O.D.'s symbol) on my right arm, the other the outline of a cross on my left wrist. All I can really suggest is that you get something that means a lot to you, and hopefully always will. It's something that stays with you for life, so consider what your options carefully. I recommend a symbol that identifies you on a very personal level, but obviously the choice is yours. Maybe to be sure you should try to get the design you're considering as a temporary tattoo first and see how you like it, then go in for the real thing.

I got my first tattoo 11 years ago. It's a pink rose on my left butt cheek. I still really like it. I chose that location b/c I was told it wouldn't hurt as much and no one would be able to see it unless I wanted them to see it. It's old now and I need to get it recolored.

It's hard to make suggestions about tattoos. It's all about personality. A lot of my friends started with a pierciing like a nose or navel ring or something that can be removed easily.

Wait until you decide what you want. Do you want something with meaning. I have a rose b/c I like them, it's small and cute. My friend is Mexican and she got an aztec calendar on the small of her back.

Give it some thought. Cute/Meaningful, Big/Small, Visible/Concealed. Just think about what it'll look like when your 20 years older than you are now.

No,I don't have a tattoo and I have been in two occupations and one "hobby" group noted for tattoos. I decided early on that the government already had my photo and dabs why give them more identifying marks? With all the diseases(HepC,AIDS, and Herpes) available at all but a few parlours why risk it unless you also enjoy Russian Roulette. I also know a lot of guys who loved the tat and now cant stand it and can't get rid of it. One lady I know had a tat on a area of her body that succumbed to gravity and what was cute is now a little grotesque.

Yes, I have my initials on my ribs, and my first sons name on my bicep. I am going to get my second sons name on my chest soon and tie them together with a tree, (family tree). I don't regret any of them and have had my initials for about 11 years and my sons name for 3. I put a lot of thought into where and what. I ended up deciding putting something on my body permanently that would never change, so I could not regret it. The tattoo has to represent a part of your life.

Definitely definitely don't get a tramp stamp aka a lower back tattoo. I know they're 'in', I know they're 'cool'. Don't do it, you will regret it. Speaking from my friend's experience anyway. I've got two cute little peacocks on my shoulders, my design that I made up. My advice go to a site like tattoojohnny.com. It's got a great FAQ section about tattoos and you can even buy paper to make your tattoo design at home on your printer into a temp tattoo so you can wear for a day or two and see if you like it before you get inked for good.

Think long and hard about getting a tattoo because they are in fashion right now.

How will you feel about it 20 years from now? What you think is cute or sexy now won't look so hot on baggy wrinkled skin.

Remember a tattoo isn't cheap to remove and you will have scarring.

And one final thing... marking your body is against God's law in the Bible. If you are Jewish and you have a tattoo you cannot be buried in a Jewish cemetery.

Think twice about it.

Make sure you really want what you choose. Your tat needs to mean something to you personally not just something you kind of like at the moment. Researchyour artist and the shop he/she works in. check out portfolios and ask around regarding cleanliness. Also, visit the shop several times and watch how they handle their customers, equipment and such. Oh, and stay away from bf names or initials. Ask any tattoo artist and they'll tell you that is a relationship killer.

I don't have one yet. I'm getting a Wingless angel on my shoulder, and a fly somewhere else. Just be careful where you get your tattoo. The cute little butterfly on the small of your back today, could look like a vulture in twenty years.
