The water starts off cool then warm then it gets hot and stays hot.

The water lines are not crossed or the cold is hooked to the hot supply. The hot side is hot and the cold side is also hot.

This can happen if the water sitting in the line is near a heat source of some kind.

Does the water stay hot, or is just hot for a few seconds? If it stays hot, then it would seem like your plumbing is screwed up.

If your pipes are visible, try to follow the line to see if there's any place where it could be getting hot.

It takes a minute for the cold water to clear out of the pipe which brings in the hot water from the heater. That sink must be the farthest from the water heater. If you use the hot water all day it should stay relatively hot. But when it stays off for long periods of time, the water in the actual pipe will cool down to room temperature.

Well if you get cold water from the hot water side then the plumbers either ran the piping backwards to that sink or made the connection wrong to the sink. The standard is as you are facing the sink the hot water pipe is on the left and cold on the right.

The question no one seems to have asked is are you getting hot water out from both faucets. If this is the case, there may be something heating that particular pipe as someone has already suggested, I would investigate further if this is the case you could have a bigger problem hidden in your walls.

Hot is always left
Cold is always right

check supply lines if crossed change, if correct the lines in the wall are crossed...call a plumbing contractor not your cousin Henry

your supply lines under the sink are hooked up to the wrong shutoff valve.turn the valves coming out of the wall off.then switch the lines attached to them.turn on the valves and your back in business.be shure to have a towel handy, there will be a little bit of water.

Switch the water lines on that one sink and see what happens.

If this is a single-handled faucet, have you recently replaced the cartridge in it? If so, it sounds like the cartridge is upside down. Remove the cartridge and rotate it 180 degrees.

check to see if you have a circulating pump in the system, if so the check valve may be sticking, tap it with a small hammer to see if that will free it. it could also be the valve in your washing machine causing the water to cross flow.
