I think it's the most beautiful country in the world. The people are warm and friendly. The culture is so magnetic and vibrant. The cities are alive with passion. It's hard not to want to be a part of it. The mountains and beaches play hosts to clear waters , warm sands and beautiful fauna and flora. It makes one want to praise God and thank Him for placing his hand on the country and blessing it with beauty.

I do believe it is a garden of opportunity. We need to nourish and water the potential. And as with gardens, there are some weeds that needs to be taken out by the roots. South Africa's weeds being crime and AIDS at this point. But I do believe that the people of the Rainbow Nation can do wonders. Just look at the struggles they've already endured. How they rose above it all and claimed their freedom!

I love this country so much it hurts when I speak of it, because I'm not there to be a part of it. I live in Korea and only go home once a year. But the one month I do get to go home refreshes me in such a way that the other 11 months fly by so quickly.

I visited the Cape Town area in 1999 doing AIDS education work. It was a really beautifal area, both the city itself and when you got out of the city a little.

Once you get past the airfare (mine was $1300! Gulp!) the lodging and meals are very inexpensive. The most expensive restaurant meal I had - with a group of people - came out to 100 Rand per person, including wine, dessert, and non-traditional (to US people) foods like springbok and kudu. When you divide by 6 for the exchange rate, you can see what I mean!

If you are near Cape Town, take a tour down to the Cape of Good Hope and stop at a penguin beach along the way. You will be glad you did!
Also go to the top of Table Mountain for the view, and to see the dassies? or whatever those rodents are called that live up there. They look like a hamster crossed with a football. :o)

I live in South Africa and it is a beautiful country. The whole eastern part is popular to tourists..... Cape Town in the south is worth seeing - with all surrounding areas and wine routes, then travel north along the 'Garden Route' , through the Transkei (or you can bypass it) into KwaZuluNatal to Durban with beaches and warm ocean currents which make it possible to swim even in winter.... then north along the coast ...where you can stop by the Hluhluwe game reserve but you can travel further to the Kruger National Park and the whole Mpumalange district with its mountains is beautiful... and then there is the Drakensberg escarpment..... all these things you can google and plan a travel route....also north of Durban there are several 'traditional' Zulu places to visit....

I just got back from South Africa on the 29th of Aug. It is a beautiful place , with so much to see. I never could get used to the money , rate. I just divided their money by 7 to get our price. It is an amazing adventure if you get the opportunity to do it, just be aware of your surroundings , due to the extreme high crime rate there and always, always lock your doors car and hotel. Do not let yourself become a victim.
