my parents met this guy at a local restaraunt,he has no job, has "borrowed" money from them, accepted gifts, and has made numerous hints about he and his wife moving in with them. He claims to be very religious. My parents are church-goers and trust anyone that appears to share their beliefs. I am afraid that his true intention is to take advantage of them financially or worse.

What are their ages -- and do they have any signs of infirmity that could possibly mean that they need some help? If I were you, first I would talk to their pastor -- and see if that person can help by 'counseling' them as a religious person would (since they are religious). Then if the individual is continuing to take advantage of your parents (and you have identification on them) -- there is always the Elderly Abuse Hotline -- they may not necessarily take your complaint at first -- especially if it is Financial Abuse).

Are they aware how DANGEROUS it is to flaunt money around nowadays (or even give strangers their address?) That alone could be a sign they need some one to help them a little to remain independent and not be victimized by every scammer out there.

Unfortunately, if they have no problems -- then it is up to them to stop being victimized -- you can suggest that they protect themselves better, to give to the church more (and less to individuals -- because the church will be more effective in spreading their gifts out to the maximum extent possible and help the most people they can -- especially if they have soup kitchens, help with shelters, etc).

Yes, you can. You will have to get the person's full name, their date of birth, and their Social Security number. Choice Point Work Place Solutions in Alpharetta, GA, does some excellent background checks. It usually takes about a week or two for a complete report to come back. Mind you, their report ONLY shows convictions. So if the person got arrested, but got the charge either dismissed or was acquitted by a jury, then no conviction will appear.
