see i started writting poetry after me and my boyfriend split. i think they are really good. well i want to publish them and share them with gurls around the world even though they are personal. i also have the small short story things that i want published in another book. then i would like to write a book explaining the back ground of my poems and my reason for publishing them. so is it stupid or should i really go for it.

Do yourself a favor, young lady -- don't EVER give up on your dreams. And don't EVER let someone else tell you it can't be done. If you have the dream and the drive, you'll get there. Just remember that word "perseverence." President Calvin Coolidge said perseverence is the most important character trait any person can possess. Talent isn't enough; the world is full of starving artists. Education isn't enough; we have plenty of people in this country who have their sheepskin on the wall but can't put food on the table. Your idea is NOT stupid; actually, it's pretty darn courageous. So don't just give it a shot; keep shooting until you hit the target. Believe in yourself and NEVER give up.

Poetry is a way to put your entire soul into a constructive piece of art, I've been a poet ever since second grade... During important years of your life, such as your teen years, especially during your first few really serious relationships, your poetry is goign ot flourish and grow as you do as a person. You can try to publish them now, or you could wait until you've accumulated more poems. Understand that it's best if you don't just give out only the amount of poems you want to be published out, but enough to let the publisher/editor choose which ones are the best and still make a decent sized book of poetry, I would send at least 5 times the amount of poems I'd want to see in a book of mine. As for your other publishign ideas, take this one step at a time and see hwere it brings you.

It sounds like a really great idea to me, but do you really have the contacts to pull it off? The publishing business is just like any other. You have to know someone in order to get your foot in the door. If I were you, I would try to have them published in literary journals or magazines first. Those except work based more on talent than publishing companies do. Try to find a contact in the publishing field. Any relatives know anyone? I think you should try but I think that you should also realize that it is highly unlikely to happen.

No not at all...To everything there has to be an beginning. The younger you are the more knowledge you will obtain as you grow older...Do not share the contents of your poetry or book with anyone.....GO FOR IT.
My personal suggestion...If you do not get them to be copy right, mail the complete list of poems to your self via Registered mail or regular mail--do not open the letter,if in the event you will need a copy with the date of when you wrote the poetry & books if you have to go to court. this way no one can say they are the owner of the poetry...

No it's not stupid at all. I helped a friend publish her poems and short stories... she didn't sell any and it was thru one of those self-publishing companies where you pay them and they print and bind it. But money wasn't the point.

It's never a bad idea to publish anything creative, but you won't make any money unless it's picked up by a big publishing company that promotes and distributes it.

translate them to music. if they aren't lost in translation, then start a band and play the songs. if you can't sing, then learn an instrument. people are WAY more receptive to rock music than sad poems. even though they basically have the same subject matter. get your friends and do it. you don't stand to get very much attention, expousure or money with a poetry book. you probably don't care about exposure and money, but still try music, probably more speicifically rock. there aren't very many girls in rock, so maybe you could make it that way. sadly, if your poems don't fit into 3 power chords and tight clothing, then still go for the poetry book.
GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you say "publish" do you mean pay someone to make you a book out of all your work? Or do you mean submit your work to a literary agent, or publisher and if it gets accepted, your work would be published and they will pay you?

It's not stupid. If you believe in yourself and never quit, your dreams will come true. But sometimes it takes A LOT of hard work and time. (Unless you pay someone to make you a book, but then you need to figure out a way to market and distribute it yourself.)

Go for it!

BUT beware of publishing scams. Go online and search about how to get publishing. Keep in mind that you should NEVER pay a publishing company to produce your book.
